As an avid oiler, I’m often asked, “What are the different ways you can use essential oils?” So, each week, I will showcase one essential oil, and explain the various ways I use the oil! I hope you enjoy your weekly dose of oily tips!
First up is “Lavender.” Probably the most popular, widely-recognized essential oil, and for good reason. This stuff has been nicknamed the “Swiss Army Knife” of oils because it is AMAZINGLY versatile! Seriously, if stranded on a deserted island, and I could have ONLY ONE oil, it would be lavender! I use this stuff on a daily basis for a bunch of different reasons. It is the one I reach for over and over again…
How to use:
Here are my my “fave fifteen” ways to use lavender oil:
Relaxation: Lavender is great for relaxation! I will forever associate the scent with Tranquil Space’s signature aromatherapy spray during savasana. You can create a mist like the one used at Tranquil Space, or use 6-10 drops in a bath with epsom salts or diffuse 5-8 drops before bedtime. You can also apply lavender topically on the wrists or behind the ears.
Dry Lips: Mix 1 drop of lavender and 1/2-1 tsp of coconut oil for dry or chapped lips.
Eyelashes: Add 1 drop to new mascara tube to support lash growth.
Dry Scalp: Massage several drops of lavender on your scalp to ease dry scalp and eliminate dandruff.
Cuts and Burns: 1-2 drops of lavender can help with the stinging pain of burns and help disinfect cuts.
Bug Repellent: Lavender can help keep bugs away….like these nasty gnats plaguing us here in PA!
Upset Stomach: Apply 1-2 drops on the wrists or behind the ears for a queasy tummy.
Sleep Aid: Diffuse lavender at bedtime or add a couple drops to your pillow. Sweet dreams.
Allergy Relief: Diffuse lavender to help with symptoms of allergies.
Headaches: Diffuse a few drops of lavender or apply to wrists or temples to help with a tension headache.
Sunburns: Apply a few drops of lavender directly to a sunburn for relief.
Hyperactivity: Lavender can be very helpful for hyperactive children. I diffuse lavender when my 4-year-old is wound up!
Poison Ivy/Oak: Apply a couple drops of lavender to the affected area for itch relief.
Teeth Grinding: If you grind your teeth while you sleep, diffusing lavender during the night can help.
Scent closets: Add a couple drops of lavender to cotton balls and place in closets…will also keep moths and insects away!
